The auction in Wisconsin failed to close the deal for the SR-71 Mustang at $500,000 as targeted. It was not a losing one though as Airventure show was able to fetch $375,000 for the Mustang made through the collaboration of Carroll Shelby and Jack Roush. The proceeds of the sale will go to the EAA Young Eagles which is a non-profit org that helps with the education of children. The winning bidder remains to be unnamed.

EAA has been benefiting from the unique cars put into auction by Ford through the years. The proceeds of these auctions for the past fifteen years have been donated to charity.

The Mustang SR-71 was made as tribute to the reconnaissance plane, SR-71 Blakckbird used for long range missions designed by Lockheed Martin. The “SR” portion of the tag represents the autoworld icons Shelby and Roush who made this rare collaboration possible.

The SR-71 Mustang features an aluminum block V8 5.0L Ti-VCT powerplant jacked up with a 2.3L twin supercharger, Roush intake, and racing calibration by Ford.

Several upgrades were also injected into this special Mustang including Ford’s racing handling package, exhaust, and wheels.

There are many advantages to riding a motorcycle instead of driving a car and one of the biggest is the

There are many advantages to riding a motorcycle instead of driving a car and one of the biggest is the cost. It is much cheaper to buy and operate a bike than it is a car. It is also cheaper to insure a motorcycle. This confuses a lot of people who just assume that because bikes are more dangerous than cars they must cost more to insure. So why is it easier to find cheap bike insurance than cheap car insurance? The answer is because the biggest risk to the insurance company is the cost of liability insurance.

The reason that bike insurance is cheaper than car insurance is that a car is far more likely to kill or injure somebody in an accident. In a motorcycle accident the rider is far and away the most likely person to get hurt, that really doesn’t matter to the insurance company. For an insurance company the biggest risk is having to pay out damages for an accident cause by somebody that they insured, that’s why liability insurance is the most expensive part of insuring a vehicle according to www.carolenash.com. Since the damage a bike can do is much more limited that the damage a car can do there is far less risk for the insurance company. That of course means lower premiums.

It is also usually cheaper to get comprehensive insurance on a bike than it is on a car. Again this relates to the amount that the insurance company has to pay out. Damage to a bike usually costs less than damage to a car. However part of this is offset by the fact that motorcycles are more likely to be involved in an accident than a car. That means that unlike liability insurance which is almost always cheaper for a bike comprehensive coverage may or may not be cheaper for a motorcycle.

One of the reasons that bike insurance can be cheaper is personal injury coverage. Since there is far greater risk of injury on a motorcycle than in a car and insurance premiums are based on risk it seems like that shouldn’t be the case. In reality the risk of injury on a motorcycle is so great that it isn’t covered by standard bike insurance policies. That means that if you want the coverage you are going to have to buy it separately. Although you can save money by not getting this coverage it is a really bad idea.

Bike insurance is cheaper because there is likely to be less damage to other people in the event of an accident. That being said you can still save money on your bike insurance by being a good driver. All of the usually advice about saving money on car insurance applies to bikes as well. Being a safe rider taking a rider course and the like will help to reduce the cost of your motorcycle insurance.

The new Ford Mustang undercuts its competition the 2010 Camaro from Chevrolet as it announces its official tag price starting at $22,995. The sticker includes a destination charge of $850.

The 2011 Ford Mustang sports a new V6 3.7L engine that outputs 305 horsepower. The new Camaro LS is tagged at $23,350 which already includes a destination charge of $850.

The price of the Mustang is a bit up compared to its older sibling. The 2010 model year was priced at $22,245 including the usual destination charge of $850.

The top of the line convertible Mustang GT that comes with a premium package can be yours for $38,695 inclusive of the shipping charge. According to Ford, the new Shelby GT500 coupe has a sticker of $49,495.

You can also get some optional installations like a glass roof for $1,995, a navigation package that comes with a rearview camera and an HD radio for $2,340, and a brake package for the Mustang GT premium made by Brembo for $1,695.

It really appears that Ford decided to meet the Camaro head on with this pricing scheme. The war of muscle cars is really heating up nicely.

The 2011 Ford Mustang was just unveiled at the recent 2010 Detroit Auto Show but the plans for improving the next generation of thoroughbred is already circulating around the auto world. The carmaker hints of an independent suspension and a global platform.

It may be hard to believe but the present Mustang still uses the 1960s design of utilizing a solid axle. The suspension might be considered low tech but the Mustang delivers one solid performance.

The update to a rear suspension for the Mustang will place it on the same grounds with the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro. The next gen Mustang might give the Camaro a good neck to neck battle when it comes into production by 2014. The release of the new Mustang will coincide with the unit’s 50th year anniversary and will of course deserve some special treatment.

Putting the car into a global RWD platform will also allow the Mustang to be more performance-focused. The new platform will allow a good balance of the new chassis, handling, and the version of the twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 engine under its hood.

The planners and designers at Ford are looking at three directions for the Mustang coming out on 2014. The first option will be an evolution staying on the old styling cues and the V-8 5.0L engine. Second, the European market might get a V-6 turbocharged powerplant just like the M3. Third option which is the least probable to happen is to transform the Mustang into a high tech, high performance vehicle to compete with the likes of the GT-R from Nissan.

Ford has been a known supporter of car racing whether it be on the road course or on the drag strip. Tuning company Hurst Performance recently uncovered the 2010 convertible Ford Mustang set up to be the pace car for the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge.

The limited edition car from Hurst and BF Goodrich uses the Mustang Convertible as its building skeleton. The 2010 pace car was tweaked with a Hurst supercharger that helps the engine output 435 horsepower and about 400 lb-ft of torque. It was also treated with 20 inch aluminum polished rims with a touch of gold for its center spokes. The rims are matched with the g-Force KDW rubbers from BF Goodrich.

(Pics via Turbo’s Performance Cars)

A handling package from Eibach utilizes the enhanced power of the Ford Mustang and the grip provided by the tires. Anti-roll bars and coil over dampers were also installed by Hurst. The engine roar comes from the custom made Magnaflow exhaust.

The interior also gets a Hurst treatment as evident with the H logos on the upholstery and mat. A gold T-handle gear shifter was also installed to give that bling and muscle look.

On the outside, the white roof is an eye catcher. Gold stripes are also painted going along well with the logos marking it as the official Pace Car.

The Mustang Pace Car will have a very limited run with only 50 units coming into life. Each will come with a plaque to mark its place in the limited production run. The Hurst team also places their signatures in the trunk of the car.

Sticker price for the Hurst/BF Goodrich Mustang Pace Car begins at $36,450 on top of the regular price of the Mustang GT and the convertible Premium GT. Buyers will have their hands on the car by October.

Officially on sale this fall, Roush makes another engineering artwork as they come up with a 2010 Mustang that has a massive 540 horsepower. The tweaked Ford may not really need that much of a pimping but the versions from Roush comes in two levels with a wide array of modifications and styling enhancements.

The Stage 3 Mustang has an impressive power that comes from the supercharged V8 4.6 engine of the Mustang GT. The engineers of Roush integrated aluminum pistons, new fuel injector and rails, and customized crankshaft to achieve the power level they wanted.

The Stage 3 Ford Mustang tops their line of creations and Roush only plans to produce about 103 of these units. The Stage 3 setup will come with a complete body kit, 4-piston calipers on fourteen inch brake discs, and 18 inch chrome rims as standard with 20 inch wheels as an option.

The interior also gets some upgrade with the full leather treatment for the seats with the Jack Roush signature embroidery, custom badging, short shifter, and lighted skid plates. The Stage 3 package has a hefty price of $59,945.

The 540RH kit may still be considered a bargain since it will have the Stage 3 Ford Mustang engine upgrade but the price sticks at $46,145. The Mustang also gets a new spoiler, suspension package, and a shifter on short-throw setup.

Both the 540H and the Stage 3 comes with a 36-month warranty and is only available on manual transmission. It’s much more impressive than the 2010 TrackPack Ford Mustang which I tried earlier this year too – take my word for it!
